General Practice
General practice is the model under which lawyers and law firms began and operated in the early days of the United States. However, with the Industrial Revolution and new technologies, globalization, federal acts for fairness and equality for the betterment of the Nation and its people, along with law-making of state-legislatures, coupled with the computer era, laws grew rapidly into the millions upon millions. Large law firms became common place, focusing on narrower practice areas that impact bigger business, because these laws impact them on a much larger scale, such as tax and international law.
Nevertheless, the general practice lawyer and law firm is still the backbone of the Indiana legal practice for individuals and smaller businesses; the latter still account for most jobs and job growth in the United States. Specifically, individuals and small businesses need legal advice from time to time that does not necessitate litigation or an attorney focused on specific practice areas. Examples include review and drafting of ordinary business contracts, simple wills and powers of attorney, setting up to winding down a business entity, or general legal advice about a situation at home or in the workplace.
With these and other legal matters, such as actual business litigation, Ciyou & Dixon, P.C. attorneys are ready; we understand that our society is a litigation-laden place and strive to provide guidance to individuals and businesses to strike the right balance between probable risks versus legal cost with each client’s issue. Unless litigating on principle or other sound reason, spending more in legal fees than the foreseeable cost of the risk is worth is not economical or practical. We believe that not every matter of business or daily life needs a lawyer’s advice, nor is every wrong compensable.
Ultimately, we aim to be accessible for individuals and small businesses with the routine matters, even in emergency situations, to provide practical advice and sound strategies. In some cases, the answer is truly simple, deductive reasoning and does not necessitate more than a phone call to determine a course to mitigate or eliminate the legal matter; or sometimes a simple discussion opens up new legal considerations or courses for our clients. Mitigating, eliminating, and considering various legal matters are necessary to sound and successful on-going business operations. Knowing your options and making informed choices is what we believe is the mantra of a general practice attorney. Ciyou & Dixon, P.C. represents clients throughout the State and in all Indiana courts.
