Attorney, Bryan L. CiyouI grew up in the country, and guns were an ordinary (and safe) part of daily life. “Hearing about the NRA” and seeing NRA stickers on cars and trucks was a normal part of my life as well. The NRA-logo targets were the ones I shot at during Boy Scout summer camp. Then I didn’t know exactly what the NRA was, nor did, to protect the right to keep and bear arms; but I knew it was really important.

As an adult and then attorney, I continued to have an interest in shooting sports. My hobby in researching firearms law gradually became a significant part of my legal practice. Inevitably, I had more contact with the NRA, from local fund raising banquets (which are a blast) to testifying about proposed firearms law backed by the NRA in the General Assembly. And I am in the right place, as now I understand Indiana has a long-history with firearms and a pro gun government, including the Senate who recently passed a resolution inviting gun and accessory manufacturers to move to Indiana and out of states that passed anti-gun legislation impacting their business, such as Magpul Industries in Colorado.

My involvement with firearms law has provided me with the opportunity to attend small firearms events to major firearms’ annual trade shows and symposia across the Country, from the annual gun bloggers convention in Reno to Safari Club International and the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s SHOT Show, both in Las Vegas. What is truly amazing is that at all of these events, small or large, the “NRA” is there. Every event. Every time.

Now I have had the opportunity to meet the people behind this legendary organization, from the local state representative to those from NRA Headquarters in Virginia, plus the volunteers they inspire to the cause. This is the true wonder of the NRA, all of the volunteers and professional staffers behind the name. They are singularly focused on maintaining gun rights and educating the public at large, as well politicians under their legislative arm, about the real facts about firearms, laws and causes of crime.

Bryan Ciyou, IN Gov. Mike Pence

I personally invite you to experience the magic–the 2014 NRA Annual Convention is coming to Indianapolis from April 24-27, 2014; this is thanks to a personal invite from former Governor Daniels to NRA Executive Director Wayne LaPierre, only to be followed by Governor Pence having his first fundraiser being a sporting clays shoot instead of a golf outing.

Here you will meet fellow NRA members and many of the NRA staff. This is the NRA. And you will do more than you know to support the NRA by just attending the Convention.

The NRA Convention is not a day in a gun shop or at the range (not that many of you would mind). This a full-fledged family affair with lots of everything for everyone--all members and attendees, men, women and children.  The number of events and things to do at the NRA Convention is simply overwhelming, from an airsoft range for the kids, staffed by NRA instructors, to the 8th Annual NRA Women’s Leadership Forum luncheon and auction. Everyone is sure to find something to love in the Exhibit Hall of vendors, which will have everything from firearms and accessories to ATVs, plus the many special add-on events, including concerts and gun auctions.

For attorneys and individuals interested in understanding the complex web of firearms law, I am pleased to announce that I will be presenting “State and Federal Firearms Disqualification, Relief from these Disabilities, and Current Trends” at the NRA’s 17th Annual National Firearms Seminar on Friday, April 25, 2014. This again is just one of the simultaneous events occurring at the NRA Convention (if this is not your cup of tea).

As most readers know who follow my blogs, understanding, following, or changing the law is something I strongly believe in. If this is your interest, whether you are a civilian, law enforcement officer, or lawyer, please mark you calendar and sign up now. The presenters at this seminar will include, NRA attorneys, an Indiana Supreme Court Justice, law professor, and attorneys; this is perhaps the biggest gathering of firearms authorities at any place at any one time in the United States. This is sure to give you the pulse on firearms laws and trends.
